Comcast Catches the Fever With Sci-Fi On Demand

Comcast Catches the Fever With Sci-Fi On Demand

This month, Comcast Digital cable customers will be able to choose from classic flicks to the hottest new releases in film and on TV. In addition, "Star Trek" fans can enjoy an even more genius piece of marketing with "Spock around the clock" - every "Star Trek" movie, from "Star Trek: The Motion Picture" through "Star Trek: Nemesis."

Page Thompson, Vice President and General Manager of Comcast ON DEMAND said, "With Sci-Fi Month On Demand, we're doing something completely original: combining the greatest sci-fi and fantasy movies with unique shows from leading networks to create a one-stop destination for fans of this wildly popular genre. Video on demand gives us the ability to bring sci-fi fans the programs they want, when they want them."

Sci-Fi Month programming highlights include:

"Batman Begins;" "Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith;" "Fantastic Four;" "War of the Worlds;" "Independence Day;" "Twilight Zone: The Movie;" "Close Encounters of the Third Kind" (also available in high definition in selected locations); "The Fifth Element" (also available in high definition in selected locations); "The Incredible Petrified World"

  • All 10 Star Trek movies

  • "Sin City;" "Ghostbusters;" and "Blade: Trinity" (available with a subscription to Starz)

  • "Lord of the Rings: Return of the King," "Virus" (available with a subscription to Encore)

  • "I, Robot;" "The Matrix Revolutions"; "The Chronicles of Riddick" (available with a subscription to Cinemax)

  • Every episode of the television series "Firefly," including three episodes never seen on broadcast television. ("Serenity," the movie extension of the TV series, will premiere on ON DEMAND in February.)

  • Programs from leading cable networks like The Discovery Channel's "The Science of Star Wars;" The Travel Channel's "Most Haunted;" The History Channel's "Mummy: The Inside Story;" and even "Boomerang's The Jetsons"

More than 70 hours of Sci-Fi Month programming is available at no additional charge for Comcast Digital Cable customers. New-release movies are available for $3.99 each, and selected Hollywood library titles are available for $2.99 each.
